Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, is said by a former England spinner to resemble a younger version of the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni because of his composure and ability to read the game.
Samson has led his team effectively to keep RR in the running for an IPL play-off place with his 308 runs in 11 games, including a 66 not out at a strike rate of 154.77.
“What I love about Sanju is, he has become more and more of a leader and a consistent senior player that his talent beckoned and destined him to be,” said Swann, who is a member of JioCinema's Expert panel, in a statement.
“Let's face it: four or five years ago, everyone knew how talented he was, but he could easily sit out six to seven games before delivering a spectacular knock. I believe he is virtually Rajasthan's Mr. Dependable at this point.
“And he's extremely composed, confident, and reminds me of a young MS Dhoni, I believe, with his leadership. He remains cool under pressure, is aware of what is happening, and has a good sense of how the game is being played, the source said.
Rajasthan Royals enjoyed a strong start to the season until dropping three straight games to fall to fifth place.
On Saturday, RR will play Kolkata Knight Riders.
